Senior Technical Designer

Senior Technical Designer
Role Overview
We’re hiring a Senior Technical Designer to help bring our mobile adventure game to life. You’ll be the first dedicated designer on the team, joining at an exciting stage where the high level creative and design direction exists, but many of the systems and gameplay features still need to be built, tested, and iterated.
This is an important role that blends product thinking, design sensibility, and hands-on technical implementation, with a high degree of autonomy and ownership over execution. You’ll partner closely with the founder and technical team to turn vision into gameplay — designing and building core systems like movement, combat, progression, and monetization from the ground up.
This role is perfect for someone who wants to build memorable game experiences and enjoys prototyping, systems design, and solving complex problems through a combination of logic and intuition.
Responsibilities
Rapidly prototyping core gameplay systems such as combat, player movement, and interactions using C++ or Blueprints in Unreal.
Help define system-level architecture and modular logic that supports procedural content and scalable gameplay.
Prototype levels and layouts to evaluate game feel, mechanics, and flow.
Design meta, economy, and monetization systems to support long-term player engagement.
Own features end-to-end: specs, implementation support, playtesting, balancing, bug fixing, and polish.
Collaborate directly with the founder to align on creative vision and help bring a unified player experience to life with the team.
Uphold a high standard for usability and game quality; proactively improve both moment-to-moment and long-term gameplay.
Requirements
5+ years in a game design role, ideally spanning systems and gameplay.
Strong scripting or programming skills in Unreal Engine (Blueprints, C++, or equivalent), with the ability to ramp up quickly.
Proven track record of prototyping, iterating, and shipping game features.
Experience designing for mobile free-to-play games.
Proficiency in Unreal Engine, in either a professional or serious hobbyist context.
Be open to using new technology, including AI to assist with ideation, iteration, testing, and more.
Thoughtful communicator who collaborates well across disciplines and brings the team along for the design journey.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity, taking initiative, and unblocking challenges to move the game forward.
Nice To Have
Experience designing procedural systems.
Experience with progression systems, in-game economies, or monetization for live service games.
